The recipe is completely different from every Lao gan ma chilli oil I’ve ever gotten and I’ve bought it for years. There’s practically no flavour and it’s much oilier than usual. The oil tastes and smells chemically initially. I enjoy the crisp but otherwise it’s very off putting. I don’t know if it’s a fake or if the recipe was changed but overall

All our Lao Gan Ma comes in through legitimate supply channels, though the maker does occasionally fine-tune the recipe, and different product lines within the Lao Gan Ma range vary quite a bit in oil ratio and seasoning, so a jar can genuinely taste different from the one you've bought for years.
