Tries This but it was not for my family’s pallet. There is a distinct taste that spoils everything. It’s like it’s artificial. Very different to a stock block.

Hotpot broth bases like this one are quite different from a regular stock block as they're intensely concentrated blends of spices, often featuring bold ingredients like Sichuan peppercorns, fermented pastes and chili oils that can have a very strong and unfamiliar flavor profile. The taste you're describing as 'artificial' is likely the combination of these deep umami-rich seasonings that are very characteristic of authentic Chinese hotpot cooking. We'd suggest trying a much smaller amount dissolved in a larger pot of water next time, as these bases are designed to be highly diluted. This hotpot broth is far too hot and I enjoy hot food most of the time but this burns your tongue and leaves no tastebuds for anything else.
