I enjoyed this tea, the taste was rich and earthy. However, the leaves are finer than I expected. This required that I pay more attention to the brewing times. Because the leaves are finer than, for example, the Ripe Puerh 100g, I had to cut my steep times in half if I wanted to prevent over steeping and be able to get the 6 or 7 steeps that I expect from a puerh.

Your observation is spot on, since the Tang Li Chun Yunnan Kongque Jinyin is pressed from smaller, tighter leaf grades, and finer material means far more surface area in contact with the water, so extraction happens much faster than with a chunkier ripe pu-erh. Cutting the steep times in half is exactly the right adjustment, and many drinkers also find that breaking the cake apart gently rather than prying off dense chunks helps keep the brew even across those later infusions. A quick rinse or two at the start can also settle the fines and give you a cleaner cup from the third steep onward.
